Today H&M announced an exclusive collaboration with MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA for Autumn/Winter 2012 - garments and accessories for men and women, which will be launched November 15th, 2012, in around 230 H&M stores worldwide and online.
The Philosophy of MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA
MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA, a French fashion house which has always followed his own path, often outside the conventional fashion framework. The Maison believes in the absolute importance of the collaboration nature of its team rather than the individual, where its ideals are founded in the desire for concept and creativity. Constantly questioning the norms of fashion and presenting its pieces through the technique of deconstruction and transformation, the collections reinvent volumes, modify shapes, change the original use of movement of garments and derail classic notions of fashion.

Great-looking, practical fashion, even from a provocative house like this, doesn’t always need some meta reason for being. And if you strip away the silk kimono dresses that weren’t so much deconstructed as caught mid-construction, the Margiela fall collection contributed to the mythic idea of corporate wear, an uncanny theme that has popped up in Paris.
The first few looks were the Margiela take on the season’s pantsuit: lean legs that were longer in the front; a silk pullover blouse that, knowing this design team, was probably backless; a blazer thrown elegantly over the shoulders. Then came more asymmetrical pants in fluid black, navy, and camel wool, paired with capes that looked like double-breasted jackets with the sleeves sewn in the pockets, and later, oversize, knee-length tunics in matching fabric. Any of these looks, or the gray turtleneck and pencil skirt, or the white oversize blouse with a cool, black leather kick-pleat skirt would suit any chic power exec in Denmark or Duluth.
There were a few nods to the season’s other trends too. The sliced, single pant-legs were a fun wink to all the slit action that’s been happening (it started even before Angelina Jolie’s leg took on a life of its own at the Oscars), and the voluminous, white leather turtleneck and pants reflected the resurgence of skins. Oh and don’t forget the luxe, single-breasted coats with the super-high, exaggerated, popped collars. When so many designers are being influenced by armor and talking about clothes as protection, these subtly striking pieces made that statement, no explanation needed.

The democracy of our fashion has always been at the centre of our creativity, and the collaboration with H&M allows us to publish this instinct further. We will bring together the contrasting universes of the two houses in ways that will surprise all." MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA
