NYFW | HUGO BOSS Spring/Summer 2015

The Wi-Fi network on the 54th floor of the not-yet-completed 4 World Trade Center building where Boss Womenswear had its show was called #thisisboss. And connect we did, because the wireless service way up there was nil, and how else were we going to Instagram pictures of the view? The view! The southwest vantage point from the space took our gaze across the very lowest tip of Manhattan, the Statue of Liberty (which looked Lego-sized, we were so high), Governors Island, New Jersey . . . and beyond. Check your social media and the hashtag above, you’ll get it.

#thisisboss - directed by Marco Brambilla starring Suvi Koponen
„I wanted to present a completely different take on BOSS.This film expresses a marriage of nature and technology, classical versus hi-tech.“ - Jason Wu, Artistic Director BOSS Womenswear.

The collection was a lot like its skyscraper venue, stark, structural, and reflective, with a series of dresses at the end of the show embroidered all over with bugle beads that shone like the city when the sun rises.

“My first season was deeply rooted in the tailoring DNA of the brand,” said artistic director Jason Wu backstage after the show. “This season I felt I could change things up a little bit, push the boundaries. How do I do evening a Boss way?” By constructing cocktail dresses with techniques commonly used in suiting, he decided. “All of the corseted dresses were done with menswear felting,” Wu explained. “It’s Tron-esque (we agree!), but made so beautifully inside and out.”

Wu’s favorite look: “There’s a yellow dress with pleating, strapless, deceptively simple (look 28, here below). It’s layers of tulle pleated together, then hand-stitched together, all in one form. There was a lot of work put into it, but it feels easy. And it should, because that’s what women want to wear today,” he said.

Hugo Boss in Metzingen, Germany, is nestled between Porsche and Mercedes-Benz in geographical terms, which gives you a sense of the landscape where performance and precision are concerned. “We call it ‘the campus”, said designer Jason Wu, the brand’s newly appointed creative director.

GUCCI Fall/Winter '14/15 Ad-Campaign

Portrait of a GUCCI Girl – The fall/winter 2014 campaign from Gucci with top models Anja Rubik, Suvi Koponen, Nadja Bender and Joan Smalls join the fall advertising photos in separate portraits shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott.

“With this campaign, I wanted to create modern, evocative portraits that epitomize the essence of the Gucci woman individual, strong, sensual and glamorous,” said Gucci creative director Frida Giannini  about the campaign.

'Boyish Romanticism by GUCCI Fall/Winter 2014/15'

The news for fall is that Frida Giannini has turned away from after-dark disco-glam and toward the day. “I think it’s important in this time to make real clothes for real women,” she said backstage, wearing a version of one of the looks she’d just shown: a leather, frill-fronted shirt; narrow, boyish pants; and low-heeled Gucci boots.
