DvF - Diane von Fürstenberg FW 2011/12

Diane von Fürstenberg - "The collection which opened and closed with wrap-looks, featured high-impact fabric plays, colorblocking, shots of lamé and embroideries."

Enjoy Diane von Fürstenberg Fall 2011/12 Fashion Show at the end of this post! LoL, Andrea

Diane von Fürstenberg was thinking of 'American Legends'- powerful style makers such as Millicent Rogers, Gloria Vanderbilt, Diana Vreeland, and Nancy Cunard for her high-impact collection. "They were muses, but they were artists," explained von Fürstenberg. "I was looking to their strength, and their panache."

Her design director, Yvan Mispelaere, noted that these women all inspired with their "self confidence, daring, color!" and added that he had "the best example of all close to me, so that was quite easy."

The shadows of Vreeland and Rogers in the hung-over the opening with its seventies-flavored culottes and chemise dresses in bold Navajo prints and color blocks in black, white, and lipstick red. Vanderbilt's passion for log-cabin patchworks was evoked in the geometric color-block purses, and Cunard was referenced in the bold Deco print mixes and in the armfuls of jade and gold bangles that accessorized layered outfits in highly sophisticated tonal color mixes - shades of prune, raspberry, and bougainvillea pink, for example, or swimming-pool blues and teals.

A whiff of Opium hung in the air in seventies YSL touches like a jade-green Mongolian lamb chubby, chic peasant blouses, the Lurex-dotted chiffons, the fringe suede boots, and the tasseled clutch bags. A trio of sequined evening sheaths, in red, black, and ultramarine closed the show: the distillation of urban Manhatten chic.

If you're a minimalist, you should plan on shopping elsewhere next season: Wide-brimmed hats, fringed suede boots, silk button-downs with contrast lipping, and gauchos with gold snaps up the sides said Wild West.

Fürstenberg's Fall woman loves an eccentric print, like the black-and-white heart pattern of a matching blouse and pants. Vividly hued furs are a blog trend in New York.
