Clean Glamour by Viktor & Rolf Spring/Summer 2013

And out she steps from the mirror and into the real world: this season's Viktor & Rolf girl, her fantasy wardrobe comprised of flowing monochrome pleats and belts of shards of mosaic glass, her hair Rapunzelesque. "We were thinking about clean glamour and thought of mirrors," explained the duo Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren backstage after the show and down and around that mirrored staircase upon which the models had made their entrance.

"There was a black, very graphic section and then there were soft flesh tones," they continued, noting the importance of this dreamy-versus-sharp juxtaposition, something which they are very good at consistently doing. For them, the show is what it's always about. "We always start with the concept. This was very glamorous, conceptual," they said.

So down a chessboard-style catwalk came the models in metallic draped trousers that fell into place at the front; in billowy shirts with bows nestling into the shoulder or around the waist; in tulle-festooned maxi skirts and blouses; and mosaic mirror embroideries of roses and bows that descended down all white numbers. It was all at once soft and dreamy, and sharp and graphic - taking the very idea of a mirror and its literal and potential qualities and wrapping them up in a typical Viktor & Rolf collection that delivered what it needed to to its fans.
