American publishing house Rizzoli NY is releasing a book alongside an exhibition 'Dior and Impressionism at Granville' detailing the connections between Christian Dior's designs and Impressionist paintings, which will be displayed at the Musée de Granville from 4th of May until 22nd of September 2013. Opening hours are from 10am until 6:30pm.
What better location to host new exhibition 'Impressions: Dior' than Granville, the childhood home of Christian Dior
himself. The retrospective aims to show the connections between the
various designers of the couture house from its founder in 1946 to
current creative director Raf Simons, and French Impressionist artists including Edgar Degas, Paul Cézanne and Claude Monet. Rizzoli NY publications have produced a literary accompaniment to the exhibit, written by its curators Florence Müller and Barbara Jeauffroy-Mairet, fashion historian Farid Chenoune, Brigitte Richard from the Musée de Granville, Phillipe Thiébaut from the Musée d'Orsay, and Dior's perfumer François Demachy.
Full of illustrations, the book compares 70 dresses from the couture
house with canvases by the Impressionist movement's most renowned artist
taken from the Musée Marmottant and Musée d'Orsay's private collections.

Dior and Impressionism at Granville
Found on a sloping hill overlooking the sea is the Les Rhumbs villa, better known as the childhood residence of French designer Christian Dior. Transformed into an eponymous museum back in the 1990s, the villa, dating back to the belle époque, will play host to the Impressions Dior
exhibition from May 4 until September 22 which retraces the
relationship between numerous Dior pieces and the Impressionist art
movement that began in the late half of the 19th century. From 1950s
creations inspired by the designer's own English garden to the more
recent works of Raf Simons.
